I suppose it's inevitable that every car-crazed youngster will at some point fall in love with a Corvette show car. One generation fell in love with the Mako Shark, others became besotted with the XP882. I had the 1990 CERV III. There's nothing obvious about the CERVIII that explains why it inspired me so. It is fundamentally just another futuristic show car replete with every conceivable electronic trick and gizmo--and like most completely unrealistic show cars, it had very little impact on its production counterparts. For me, though, it meant much more.

Some concept vehicles are strictly for show; others one day are meant to go. The 1986 Chevrolet Corvette Indy concept car was one that combined both duties. The mid-engine Indy stretched toward the boundaries of not only all previous Corvettes, but of the sports car world.

When the third-generation Camaro debuted in 1982, a horsepower war started between Chevy and Ford. Ford’s Mustang GT, equipped with a “Boss” 302 motor (5.0-liter), made 157 horsepower and could get the lightweight car to 60 mph quickly. The more appealing Camaro Z28 made more power but was heavier. So, each year, Chevy and Ford found ways to extract more power out of their pony cars. By 1984, the Z28 was making 190 horsepower – 15 more than the Mustang GT and turbocharged four-cylinder Mustang SVO. To celebrate, Chevrolet added awful electronic gauges to the options list.

The Chevrolet Corvette first appeared in 1953 as a unique American entry into the sports car market dominated by European makes. Although not a muscle car by definition, the Corvette used muscle car powertrains and has represented American performance for almost fifty years.

Three years later, Chevrolet released their second-generation model in 1970 with much success. Production lasted for about 12 years but this time, it was no longer offered in convertibles. The model's incurred success was credited to its new styling which was European-inspired but which others would say was Ferrari-styled. Still based on the Nova, 1970 Camaro was still engineered with a unibody structure with front subframe, leaf springs at the back, and A-arms up front for front suspension.

It was 1969. And what an amazing year it was! The Beatles’ world renowned hit Come Together was at the top of the music charts along with Johnny Cash’s A Boy Named Sue, Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon, and the 1969 Chevy Chevelle SS, now a classic muscle car, was born. The Chevy Chevelle SS met the demands of muscle car enthusiasts for small cars with powerful motors. Its sporty fast-back body style which was first concocted in the redesign of the 1968 models gave it a touch of class as did the new design of the tail lights. Chevelles are mid-sized cars meeting the median between small sports cars and large family cars.

There’s one classic car that has been my fascination lately - it’s the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro! From the day it was first introduced in 1967 as new model year on a brand new rear-wheel drive using a GM F-body platform, the Camaro was absolutely a hit during that era. At the start, the Camaro was advertised on the top 40 radio stations of the day so as to promote this vehicle to the young adult market.

In 1968 the 3rd generation or C3 Corvette was set loose. This new style basically used a concept car the GM design team had developed called the "XP-755 Mako Shark" show car. Very little was changed to make the "Shark" concept into the production model. 1968 was the only year where the car was referred to as "The Shark", even though this new body style remained for nearly 15 years. The chassis itself was a carryover.
